Telework Policy

A need for a federal mandated teleworker policy is needed. The savings using tele-working has been substantiated across the board. With todays technology, working from home is a no brainier and the cost and employee moral savings alone is extensive. Consolidated federal work space should be the norm and workers should be encouraged to work from home on a normal schedule.

Frequent Flyer Miles

The frequent flyer miles earned on buisness flights should go to the government (or entity that paid for the ticket) and not to the traveler. Those miles will add up and then can be used to save money on future government travel. While getting miles for personal use is a nice perk for travelling employees, they are essentially getting free upgrades and personal vacations at the government’s expense.

Federal Self Sustaining Green Facilites and Bases

Turn large Federal facilities and bases into self-sustaining power plants using green energy such as solar, wind, geothermal, etc. This creates jobs, stimulates the local economy for each large facility, stimulate green initiatives, save money and the enviornment. Excess power can be sold back to the local power companies or used to charge an electric Federal fleet of cars.

Sensor Automatic Light Switch

Along with the numerous requests to put LED lights in government buildings. Include requirement to have Sensor Automatic Light Switch installed in all offices/bathrooms/conference rooms/hallways. This has potential to save thousands if not more every year. I know there's been signficant studies, however they have not created enough concern to get leadership to adopt on large enough scale.

No Suits and Ties in the Summer

Federal government buildings are kept incredibly cool in the summer - one could even say the temperature inside Federal buildings is downright cold in June, July, and August! Constituents and citizens entering the buildings wearing typical summer-wear are quickly shivering. The Federal government uses an enormous amount of power to keep government buildings so cold in the summer. High power usage costs the government... more »
