Military Operational Readiness Inspection (ORI)

Since we are currently and have been at war or engaged in the act of war since the early 90's, I see no reason to continue with ORI's. These inspections cost millions of dollars for each base and have little benefits due to frequency of deployments into the Area of Responsibility (AOR). These inspections occur every two years, but our base will put folks on the ORI group a year out and accomplish several mini mobility... more »

I am overpaid -Cut Military Pay, or at least stop the pay raises

We could save MILLIONS just by cutting military officer pay 1-2%, and this is coming from a military officer. I know this would never change because it would be political suicide, but military OFFICER pay is way too high. It is no longer a "sacrifice" to serve in the military, espeically since there are so many military jobs that rarely deploy. As 2 married military members, we make about $120K/yr. This is crazy!... more »

Shut off Personal Computers weekends and most days

DoD and probably most other departments leave personal computers on the vast majority of the time to permit patches and upgrades to occur. Shutting off computers when the work day ends (especially weekends) when possible would save energy. One night a week can be picked to keep computers on to receive patches/upgrades and this day can change to prevent a pattern from being established if the threat dictates. The practice... more »

FEDERALLY MANDATED (4 DAY ONLY!!) WORK WEEK POLICY

Going to a 40 hour work week with four ten hours days a 10/4 schedule would allow the same amount of work to get done to save money in all kinds of ways... in energy, gas (globally), highway congestion(in CONUS), lights, heating or cooling, janitorial services, security, possibly other arease as well. We just held a recent IG audit and the auditor asked if you had 1 single thing that could improve our organization what... more »

STOP Foreign Aid / Foreign Military Spending

Think about it; Africans, Middle Easterners, Central Asians, etc. are the smartest people in the world. They sit back and let the US dump BILLIONS of dollars into their economies to build up their nations, feed their poor, and strengthen their militaries. Give me a break with the whole “War on Terrorism”. If “Partner Nations” or “Allies” haven’t figured it out by now, they just don’t get it. And to keep throwing money... more »

DOD Civilian 5-year Overseas Limitation

SUGGESTION: Relax the State Department and DOD rules on civilian employees time limit at OCONUS locations. BACKGROUND: DOS and DOD rules typically limit a DOD civilian employee from staying more than 5 consecutive years at OCONUS locations. PROBLEM: DOD employees who are fully qualified and knowledgeable in a particular overseas position are forced to move back to the States. This cause loss of continuity and additional... more »

Eliminate Congressional Travel for Vacations

C-40s are used to provide travel for Congress, FLOTUS, JOSAC, etc? Eliminate the weekly vacation and shopping missions. Everytime this plane is utilized, the cost to taxpayers should be posted and available. The manpower/per diem $$$s for these so-called "missions" are unreal; pilots, flight attendants, maintenance personnel in business suits, hotels overseas, per diem. Taxpayers should not have to fund this waste and... more »

Mandatory 4 day work weeks across Federal Offices

Many federal employees routinely work more than eight hours per day. Within the Department of Defense, I know more who routinely work greater than 10 hours per day than not. If the entire federal government were to move to a four-day workweek, ten-hour days, or the option for some of working four, eight-hour days with reduced pay, we could save countless dollars and reduce our energy footprint. In major metropolitan... more »

Allow agencies to keep funds after 9/30

Don't pressure agencies to spend all their money by the end of the fiscal year. Allow them to keep it for next year. Convert fiscal years to 2 year cycles. The greater pressure to spend tax dollars, the more potential for waste.

Civilian DOD Full-Time Air Reserve Technicians

I love my career in the USAF Reserves. As a full-time Air Reserve Technician the past two years we've been ordered to wear our part-time Reserve uniforms as DoD Civil Service employees daily. This is costing the USA government at 5 million dollars annually. Not to mention the yearly cash awards to other officers to maintain dress and appearance standards daily. Please consider giving this money back to the USA tax... more »

Civilian/Contractor in Afghanistan

I believe if you got rid of the contractors/civilians in Afghanistan it would reduce the deficit tremendously. While being deployed here (AF/E-7) I have met so many American citizens that are getting paid 6 digits for what the actual military can do cheaper. For example, there was a fork lift driver moving cargo when the planes arrive and he stated that he has been here for 8 years and makes $125,000/year. Also we... more »
