Dislike Button

I work for USDA-FSA and we have a site much like this one for idea's for our Agency and they have a like and a dislike button which is great because when you hit the dislike button it automaticly takes off one of the likes. So everyone gets to put in their opinion instead of just bypassing the ones that you don't agree with. So put a dislike button on this site.

Stop Government travel junkets under the guise of training.

Every year, thousands of dollars are wasted on travel for airfare, per diem, hotels, taxi fare, etc. for meetings, or training, consultation etc. The majority of the junkets are to resort areas. In this recession, we can not afford to send upper management officials to vacations under the guise of "training". Send the book or DVD. Do a free teleconference on Skype. If you need a vacation, use your own funds and leave, ...more »

Eliminate welfare benefits to deadbeats

Too many people such as those who have baby after baby, or act disabled when they really aren't, and who never intend to work are stealing our hard-earned tax dollars needlessly. Put a cap on the amount of time any individual can receive benefits so that you will provide incentives for people to stop abusing the system. This could save taxpayers billions of dollars a year.

Streamline travel purchases

Why pay an airline $300 for a flight that takes twice as long as one that costs $150? I understand buying the more expensive ticket to get reimbursal in case of a cancellation, but don't employees generally use the flight? I routinely see colleagues paying double the money for services offered by cheaper commercial airlines, and I'm sure this adds up over all departments. Allow employees to make their own travel arrangements, ...more »

verification of citizenship in public scholls receiving Federal

Require fingerprinting and verification of citizenship for all students. We would not have a crisis in school funding if such a large portion of tax dollars didn't go to ESL students (25%+). Most illegal immigrants would not enter the US if there was no hope of education for their children.

Failure to verify citizenship is nonfeasance for political gain. Taxpayer money should be for the benefit of taxpayers only.

Combine federal office buildings

Traveling around the US I have noticed that we have a lot of office buildings. That is not a surprise to me. What is surprise is that we have Forest Service offices a very short distance apart from others. Close to an area that I live the Forest Service is in the process of building a new office. 13 miles away is the Supervisors Office that they are working out of while the new office is being built. The question I have ...more »

Qualify Bicycles for Lower Travel Reimbursements

I am presently reimbursed at 51 cents per mile to use of my privately owned automobile and would like to instead sometimes be reimbursed at 10 cents per mile to use my privately owned bicycle. Add bicycles to the list of reimbursable mileage rates or otherwise fund its use. My bike, tires, maintenance, and riding gear have costs, yet i reduce the higher societal costs of fuel demand, traffic control, pollution, road maintenance, ...more »

part-time positions for current and new employees

Allow current employees to decrease hours and fly new positions with part-time status. There is a huge market of employees willing to work fewer then 40 hours a week. This will allow alternative schedules which will help agencies serve the public with appropiate staffing. Staffing people to meet the needs of the work. Employees work hard to get work accomplished in hours provided and government saves on salary and benefits ...more »

hay along highways

The Department of Agriculture should work with the Department of Transportation to create a system where the grass along interstate highways is baled for hay rather than just being cut and wasted. The hay could be sold as revenue for the government to farmers and ranchers at low cost keeping food cost down for livestock. Lower food cost for livestock will mean more profit for individual farmers and ranchers which could ...more »

CUT TRAVEL 20%

Our agency has cut travel 20% this year and we could at least another 10% next year. All agencies should cut travel by a minimum of 20% if not more.

Smart procurement of Government vehicles

My idea can be enacted by the President in an hour. Have the entire Executive Branch streamline the procurement of Federal vehicles by limiting them to sedan models with a four cilinder engine only and light trucks limited to six cilinder engines only. Currently all American car manufacturers build fuel efficient vehicles with these features, even full size, 4x4 light trucks. Limiting procurement of vehicles to these ...more »

who decides what's hot?

One of my ideas submitted a week ago was gaining a lot of momentum and being voted on while in the what's hot location. It hasn't seen much activity since being removed and went from number 9 to number 23. This leads me to believe that someone is manipulating the system to ideas that may be less controversial, etc.

Eliminate Farm Subsidies

More than 70 percent of aid goes to the largest 10 percent of farm businesses. With an average income 28 percent higher than the U.S. average, farm households don’t need federal welfare. Save $30 billion.

Energy Savings

In buildings we often do not use energy efficient fixtures or light bulbs, in addition we often do not turn off the lights when we leave the room and let our office equipment run all night instead of being turned off. While the equipment goes into sleep mode they still have "vampire lights" on which are lights that use up energy. By having a policy for the last person leaving an office turn off lights and nonessential ...more »
