Budget Giveback

Instead of punishing Agencies for giving back money at the end of the budget year, reward them. Currently, there is no incentive for an Agency to give money back at the end of the year. Every year there is a mass spending (a lot of times on items that are not currently needed) just so we don't give money back. This is done because currently if you do give money back then the next year's budget is almost always cut ...more »

I agree with *Legalizing Marijuana* with provisions

(I don't partake but) - Legalize marijuana- quit spending Federal Funds to hunt down illegal growers, recreational users and closing dispenceries for medical marijuana for the sick and weary. Stop bugging campers who just want to get away from it all, and all the other folks that just want to relax. Quit making the general public pay for lawyers, and court costs because of the stupid law, and let the soft core prisoners ...more »

End of year spending

Let's stop the end of year spending free-for-all. Reward agencies who return funds leftover at the end of the fiscal year. But donot punish these agencies by reducing allocations for the new fiscal year.

Food Stamp Reform

The food stamp program needs to be reformed like the WIC program. Recently I was at the grocery store, the person in front had a rounded up buggy full of junk food and paid with food stamps. They should buy food that are nutritional like milk, cheese, beans, potatoes, vegetables, etc. They should not be able to go into a take out pizza joint get a $20 pizza just because it is not cooked on site. Taxpayers are all ...more »

Airline Ticket Savings

Instead of using GovTrip and Sato Travel to book airline flights, employees should be allowed to use other resources in order to get the best price. For instance, last week a trip was booked on GovTrip from Lewiston, ID to Denver, CO. It was a restricted, non-refundable ticket for $2,013.00. I found the same flight on Kayak.com for $452.00. They were both non-refundable, so it makes sense that we should be allowed ...more »

Too many managers - not enough workers

My agency has become far too top heavy. Our state manager spends most of his time in travel status or on detail eating up taxpayer dollars on per diem. We barely have enough field staff to get our work done with too much oversight by middle and upper management. We only need 10% administrative and management staff. Limit the number of GS-12, 13 and 14's and put many more GS-5 through 9's in the field. They are the ones ...more »

Send Training to Trainees, Not Vice Versa

I recently went to a training session at a cost of several thousand dollars per person, and the training was still in the development stages. I believe huge efficiencies and savings (both personal and monetarily) could have been realized if the quick reference guide, or DVD, or another method was simply sent to me with no personal travel involved. In this solitary case, millions of dollars could have been saved.

ELIMINATE POLITICAL APPOINTEE POSITIONS

Every new Administration appoints new top officials who come into the Agency – knowing little about what we do or how things work in the Government. Each Agency has a “Secretary” appointed, and then several “Under Secretaries” and many more “Deputy Under Secretaries” along with appointed “State Directors”. They take it upon themselves to turn the Agency upside down with their version of a restructure plan, making it ...more »

Reduce Irrelevant Training! and get back to work.

We waste thousands of hours and dollars on training that is not relevant to the employee and not relevant to the program. Some of these classes are repeated over and over again, every year. Some examples of this are the Civil Rights and Internet Security classes. Having all employees take these classes every year is excessive and a waste of time. Other examples include ICS 100, ICS 700, ICS 800, HAZWOPER, and NARA ...more »

Have all agencies review top 25 to 50 entries to Save Award!!

In looking at all the entries in many cases there seems to be repeats and what appears to be alot of great suggestions on how the government could save overall. I would suggest that the agencies, departments and organizations listed on this website review the top 25 to 50 suggestions from their own departments. There can be an overall Save Award winner, but I think if we (the government) want to get serious about ...more »
