Eliminate Congressional Retirements

Congressmen should not be allowed to receive a congressional retirement. They shouldn't serve for long period of times, but should return to private life after one or two terms. We need congress to represent the people, not themselves.

Eliminate federal funding to local festivals and events

Events such as the Washington D.C Cherry Blossom festival should be funded through local business and private donations, not federal funding.

Congressional Pay

Our Constitution mandates that our elected representatives will be paid for serving their fellow citizens. Yet, it does not stipulate how much. Every federal agency, department, directorate, office, and branch must look for ways to save money. Currently Congressmen and Senators are paid about $184,000 a year, and yet are only in session half a year. The remainder of that year they are supposed to be visiting with their ...more »

Congressional Travel

Often times congressmen and senators travel to foreign countries to see troops overseas or receive briefings from embassy staffs on issues they will be voting on that involve a particular country. However, many congressmen and senators use these paid trips to visit foreign dignitaries and leaders. I believe that funding travel if visiting foreign leaders is the main purpose of their visit is an abuse of the taxpayers ...more »

size of federal government

Currently there are 533 federal departments, agencies, directorates, and offices that receive federal funding. There should be a complete congressional review to determine which of these are outdated and no longer applicable to the nation, which ones can be down sized, which ones duplicate the function of state agencies, and which ones can be consolidated. This could save billions of dollars annually. There simply is ...more »

Stop allowing Budgetary Continuing Resolutions (or do a study)

Continuing Resolutions cause contractors to be layed off when contracts cannot be renewed. This has a significant negative impact on our economy, impacts the moral of the American people and hurts individuals directly and indirectly. 1) The uncertainty of a pending shutdown causes governement personnel to spend time and resources preparing for the shutdown. Whether it comes or not the time is spent and resources are ...more »

Full TIme Job - Full Time Hours

Members of Congress are taking FULL TIME money from the tax paying public, so they should be required to be in Washington doing their job FULL TIME. With the availability of the internet, e-mail, skyping etc. they can spend virtual time in the homeState with constitutents on the weekends, or their constituents can come to DC for visits. BUT, just as we Feds have to work full time for our paycheck, and have to work virtually ...more »

Balance the budget

Our founding fathers served in Congress and Senate without pay. Our Congress and Senate today are the highest paid people in the Federal Workforce with the most free perks of anyone and by God they get a raise every year, but the little people that pays their wages do not get a say. My suggestion is to cut their pays in half and eliminate the perks!

Check your contractor

In my time in the government I have seen contractors time and time again pull shenanigans. These contractors are wasteful. Time and time again, they somehow require much more money and time than they originally bid to do the job. They are taking advantage of Uncle Sam's now shallow pockets. Contractors should be required to finish the project as contracted, on time and within budget. They lowball the bid to get the ...more »

Budget Deficit & Lost Jobs!

It seems that with the current deficit in the TRILLIONS, government needs to be looking at some higher level (internal) cutbacks, not medicare, medical, social security, jobs etc. How about NOT giving Congressmen retirement AT FULL PAY, just for being a congressman! I certainly don't get anything near that, and I've put in nearly 27 years of government service. Just think of the savings with a cut like that! There ...more »

Furniture replacement

Current budget is extremely limited. Right now, I have an excellent 5 spoke office chair with good back support, which I am not allowed to donate due to GSA rules. Change the rules, inspect the chair, it is a $280 chair, after I retire, it can be passed on. It will pass safety inspection; why should taxpayers buy another chair? The one I use has the seat slipping down to the ground, I pull it up, over and over all day, ...more »
