UNEMPLOYMENT = COMMUNITY SERVICE

If we are going to pay people who are unemployed, why don't we get some work out of them!? If nothing else, maybe there can be a minimum amount of community service required to collect these benifits! Just think of all the community projects that could be accomplished by all these millions of people! They would still have more than enough time to search for new jobs, and it might even incintivise some of the people that... more »

SWAG Stuff We All Get You have seen it in your unit’s storage or at a recruiting event. We give it out to visitors at trade shows or at an unit open house event. Coffee cups, calendars, key chains, pens, challenge coins, you name it and the only thing in common is the sticker on the bottom; Made in China. It is time to impose immediate legislation that will prohibit the purchase of foreign made items for official... more »

Mandate that this site be uttilized

Mandate that the top 100 ideas at a minimum are forwarded to the involved agency executive for review and comment. There are an extensive amount of valuable ideas here that may not score number one. It would be tremendous waste of effort if those below number one were not reviewed for consideration. We all have an idea or two here, we all put effort into this, what a waste if the ideas were simply deleted. Mandate that... more »

Stop Paying Twice for Windows

We buy computers from Dell. Each computer comes with a license from Microsoft. (Sticker with license key) We then buy an Enterprise license to install Windows (any version) on that computer. Dell sells computers without Windows. We can buy our computers without Microsoft licenses, and then install our Enterprise software. (Volume Licensing) We never use the preinstalled version, and we never use the license key we pay... more »

Less frequent replacement of plastic bags in trash cans

I have noticed that when the janitors come around to empty people's trash cans (which typically occurs once or twice a day), they often take out the plastic bag with the trash in it and put a new bag on the trash can. This is wasteful both with regard to the cost of the plastic bags and the external cost to the environment. Most of the time it would be perfectly acceptable for the janitors to simply dump out the contents... more »

cutting down on EEO complaints

One way to cut down on EEO complaints is to ensure that those supervisors and managers who have had mulitiple viable complaints filed against them are removed or terminated from their current job. Why are the same managers who have received mulitple complaints of discrimination or unfair hiring practices being allowed to continue in their present postion and in some cases promoted. Save yourself from a lawsuit, and... more »

Stop Selling Soda and Junk Food in Federal Buildings

Similar to Michelle Obama's push for getting schools to provide healthier eating options to children, the federal government should also promote good nutrition by limiting the availability of unhealthy food in federal facilities. For example, vending machines would no longer offer sugary drinks or other types of junk food such as candy bars and potato chips, which would be replaced with healthier items. Those who wish... more »

SSI money used to support families of illegal aliens

We currently pay SSI benefits to a parent of a disabled child. The maximum amount payable is $674.00 per month. We pay this amount to a parent even if the parent is an illegal alien who does not have a social security number. If this parent, who does not have a social security number, has several disabled children, SSI will pay up $674.00 per month per child. There is not a maximum amount payable per family.... more »

Criminalize sale of food stamps

There are various examples of individuals taking the food stamps and selling them at 1/2 the value (or less), in order for them to use the cash for other uses. There should also be an audit system to ensure people are spending this given resource properly. Currently there is no way to audit spending. I have been asked several times in Baltimore city grocery stores by people to buy food stamps, or they offer to pay for... more »

Ask callers if we can send documents/brochures electronically

When we receive calls via the toll free number or at an SSA office, we send out a paper letter, reminding them of their appointment time if they made an appointment. In other instances, we send out big paper booklets providing information with close out letters. Why not ask the caller to provide an email address as an alternative, and they can receive the information via email instead? We can save on mailing costs and... more »

Skill Database for Agencies

My idea is to create an Government skill and/or Project database for use for internal agencey projects. What problem are you trying to solve? At any given moment each agency has over a hundred individual internal projects going on. To get these completed in most cases offices solely use talent within their office. I propose that we create either a talent pool database that associates skills with each divisions employee... more »

Social Security Reform

You know what you have to do to ensure Social Security will be able to continue. First, STOP borrowing from it! Second, make all wages subject to social security tax. I pay social security tax on all my income. Why shouldn't Bill Gates, or our senators, or even the President have to? Just because you're wealthy doesn't mean you should just be able to pay this tax on a small portion of your income. Third, increase... more »
