Eliminate Air Force Fitness Assessment Cell

The Air Force is paying civilians to conduct bi-annual fitness testing of military members. This shows a complete lack of confidence in the integrity of Airman and is a serious waste of resources. Immediately stand down the fitness assessment cells and return fitness testing responsibility to military members. We can control nuclear weapons but can't be trusted to count push-ups? Does anyone else see a problem with this? ...more »

Stop Paying Twice for Windows

We buy computers from Dell. Each computer comes with a license from Microsoft. (Sticker with license key) We then buy an Enterprise license to install Windows (any version) on that computer. Dell sells computers without Windows. We can buy our computers without Microsoft licenses, and then install our Enterprise software. (Volume Licensing) We never use the preinstalled version, and we never use the license key we pay ...more »

Military uniforms

Oh. My. Goodness - Where to begin? We have at LEAST 4 main branches of the military. Each branch as at LEAST 2 uniforms (for the Air Force we have ABUs, BDUs (that are phasing out), Blues, Service Dress, Mess Dress, Informal...) It's unrealistic. Not to mention a whole WASTE of paper that outlines specific rules and measurements for wearing each uniform... down to the 1/4 inch! Are you KIDDING?! We're a military ...more »

SAVE MILLIONS PER YEAR BY ELIMINATING WASTED BAH!

There are over 30K mil couples (one mil member married to another) on active duty in the USAF. Both spouses are receiving untaxed Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). One of the member’s is receiving BAH at the “single” rate (i.e. they have a spouse and/or child) rate, while the other is also receiving BAH at the “single” rate. This is obviously necessary, if they are stationed in separate locations. However, if they are ...more »

Simple Solar Idea for Military Installations

Cover the roofs of large buildings on military installations with solar panels. The enormous square footage of these roofs presents an "already-in-place" platform for solar energy generation. No additional space would be required for solar farms, wind turbines (which would be impractical due to the danger posed to flight operations), etc. Just use the space we already have. This would drastically reduce the strain ...more »

Save billions by using military instead of contractors

The Government pays contractors billions of dollars to do installation projects that could be accomplaished by assets that are already in place! I work in the Telecommunications field and have deployed twice to Iraq and Afghanistan to install communications on bases there. I also went to Iraq for 1 year as a contractor. I made more money in the one year as a contractor (over 170k) than I did the other 2 combined! And ...more »

I am overpaid -Cut Military Pay, or at least stop the pay raises

We could save MILLIONS just by cutting military officer pay 1-2%, and this is coming from a military officer. I know this would never change because it would be political suicide, but military OFFICER pay is way too high. It is no longer a "sacrifice" to serve in the military, espeically since there are so many military jobs that rarely deploy. As 2 married military members, we make about $120K/yr. This is crazy! ...more »

Civilian DOD Full-Time Air Reserve Technicians

I love my career in the USAF Reserves. As a full-time Air Reserve Technician the past two years we've been ordered to wear our part-time Reserve uniforms as DoD Civil Service employees daily. This is costing the USA government at 5 million dollars annually. Not to mention the yearly cash awards to other officers to maintain dress and appearance standards daily. Please consider giving this money back to the USA tax ...more »

Civilian/Contractor in Afghanistan

I believe if you got rid of the contractors/civilians in Afghanistan it would reduce the deficit tremendously. While being deployed here (AF/E-7) I have met so many American citizens that are getting paid 6 digits for what the actual military can do cheaper. For example, there was a fork lift driver moving cargo when the planes arrive and he stated that he has been here for 8 years and makes $125,000/year. Also we ...more »

Save money, less military moves

The military ,every year moves hundreds of thousands of members just for career advancement. The taxpayer not only foots the bill for the expensive move but also in the 2-3 months of lost productivity Cut these permanent change of station moves by 2/3. Raise the time on station limit to 6 years before someone can move to another base.

A Simple Idea That Is Easy To Implement

I propose that when military members are sent TDY they be required to share quarters or hotel rooms with one other member, providing they do not have to share the same bed, are of equal rank and the same gender. When my unit was sent on a mission for a few weeks, we stayed at a hotel and each member got their own room which was equipped with two beds. My brother, also in my unit, was sent TDY with us and we decided to ...more »

Save $1.4 Billion in contracts, Eliminate mandatory PT sessions!

Eliminate mandatory PT sessions. On average 2 hours per day, 3 times a week, 52 weeks a year is given to every AF member to maintain fitness levels. By eliminating this time the Air Force would reclaim a low estimated 98,779,200 man hours annually. This figure does not include savings from medical bills from injuries, and man-hours wasted by USAF safety offices investigating sprained ankles and knee injuries. Cost ...more »

Consolidate AF Inspections

Consolidate AF inspections (UCI, LCAP, ORI, MCCI) into 1 inspection and have 1-POC for the inspections. Also, many inspections (ORIs) are obsolete (cold war era thinking). These serve no purpose other than to have MAJCOMs and Wing Commanders get a "warm-fuzzy" that their folks could survive if a ficticious cold war were to happen.

Single Combat Uniform

There is no practical need to have 5 different combat uniforms for the 5 branches of service. Especially in this day and age when we are ever more jointly focused. The five branches used the same BDU (Battle Dress Uniform) pattern for decades, why the switch? I know each service expressed the desire to have their "own" "unique" combat uniform, but why? The five branches already have "unique" uniforms for their respective ...more »
