Many government travelers wrongly submit on their travel voucher for foreign hotel lodging by using the exchange rate given to them by the hotel. This rate is not the same rate charged by the government credit card vendor. Consequently, many overseas travelers are submitting claims for overseas lodging that are greater than what they were actually charged. Travelers should be required to submit a copy of their government credit card statement detailing the actual charge. This savings could potentially run into the millions per year considering the number of overseas lodging nights submitted each year by all Federal employees!!
