Million documents on paper and in digital formats are sent (mailed) to National archives for temporary and permanent storage. Create an secure online document and data server to digitally store documents are currently being stored in paper and CDs that are mailed to the archives. There is a huge postal cost to send or retrieve these materials to the Archive, plus the labor to box it all up and prepare it for delivery. Also retrieval can take weeks or even months. As memory become cheaper and cheeaper and document become more plentiful and harder to access, the cost of storing document digitally become a fraction of pennies on the dollar even with cost of elaborate computer security provisions and backup capabilty. The National Archive Server could also have a public side where access to documents could be a boom to colleges, industry, and internet providers and consumers.
