Eliminate paper and storage cost

I work in a aviation operations section. We currently print 1,000 Naval Aviator Flight Records per month. We store these for two years then submit them to the National Records for safekeeping. This is one squadron in the USMC using 1,000 pages a month. The electronic system we print the documents from allows us to save the file in pdf format. If we were to save them as pdf files and submit them via electronic media at the end of two years we would not only save money, but also we wouldn't need a large facility to support the storage of the documents long term. If you factor the number of aviation units printing these documents and sending them off for storage I would imagine the papar cost is staggering. I can only speculate at the size of the facility needed to store these documents. Having everything electronic would cut down on cost in multiple areas.
