There were far more deaths in the District of Columbia as a result of homicides in the past 10 years than there were in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. The cost of investigating homicides and prosecuting the murderers is excessive when looked at in whole due to the sheer number of homicides in the district. It would be cheaper to the government to deploy federal troops on foot throughout the district to deter assaults with weapons in the first place.
